Outokumpu is an exhibitor at Rio Oil & Gas Expo and Conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, September 15-18, 2008, displaying the Group’s full range with an emphasis on duplex products and capabilities to serve the oil & gas sector on a comprehensive and global basis.

Since its first edition in 1982, Rio Oil & Gas Expo and Conference has taken its place among the most important oil & gas events in the world. The event is held at two-year intervals at Rio de Janeiro’s Riocentro, the largest convention center in Latin America. As evidence of the strength of the event, the 2008 edition, to be held on September 15-18, will attract 800 exhibitors from 26 countries, 3,500 delegates, 540 technical papers, and well over 30,000 visitors. The 2008 Expo and Conference will be held under the theme of technological challenges of the 21st century in the oil & gas industries and seek to promote innovative ideas.

Outokumpu’s duplex products, from lean duplex to super-duplex, cover corrosion environments from mild to the most demanding. These products bring the Group’s customers many benefits owing to good-to-excellent corrosion resistance coupled with the high strength of all duplex grades (close to double that of austenitic grades). The benefits include increased durability and sustainability as well as considerable materials savings. As a result, the products offer highly competitive alternatives to standard austenitic grades over the life cycle of structures, and owing to their low nickel content, they offer projects much appreciated price stability.

Outokumpu has pioneered a number of duplex solutions for a wide range of industries including the oil & gas sector. For example, the Group’s duplex products serve the sector in flexible tubes, where lean duplex LDX 2101® has made inroads against standard austenitic grades. Outokumpu has helped produce innovations such as plate heat exchangers at Chinese oil refineries built with Outokumpu’s duplex plate. Outokumpu’s decades-long experience in duplex grades has evolved into an invaluable knowledge base to serve the oil & gas sector.
