Outokumpu’s business is based on circular economy – with up to 75% lower carbon footprint than the industry average, Outokumpu creates value to its customers supporting them to reduce their emissions.We have set an ambitious science-based climate target to reduce its carbon emission intensity by 42% by 2030 from the 2016 baseline. In addition, we are committed to working towards zero safety incidents, enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion and developing a sustainable supply chain. Furthermore, Outokumpu is committed to conducting business with high integrity and in an ethical and responsible way.

Industry benchmark for sustainability
Outokumpu is the sustainability leader in stainless steel driven by our heritage, people and operations. We will further strengthen this leadership with a more ambitious sustainability strategy and aim to become the industry benchmark for sustainability. Outokumpu is also committed to the Business Ambition for 1.5 ºC campaign of SBTi and partners.
Investing and improving
We are continuously seeking ways to further improve our efficiency and to minimize our environmental impacts.
Outokumpu operates in a material and energy intensive industry. Our improved environmental efficiency is based on long-term efforts and continual improvement. We are constantly moving towards more sustainable operations both by improving existing processes and by developing completely new ways of working in a more environmentally efficient way.During the last 15 years, Outokumpu has invested more than EUR 450 million in environmental protection, mainly related to projects to improve energy efficiency and to reduce waste to landfill. We have certified environment management systems and we implement continuous improvements in all production units to ensure compliance with all standard and regulations.
